The University has developed an eLearning Strategy and a high level Operational Plan for the period 2007 - 2009.
The eLearning Strategy is informed by the University's Strategic Plan, Towards Manchester 2015, and is designed to support a number of its goals:
Goal 4: Excellence in Teaching and Learning
4.3 Enriching teaching and learning through the provision of highly interactive on-line learning environments drawing on international best practice in elearning.

The University is committed to assisting creators of on-line courseware to benefit from the commercial exploitation of their IP.
Goal 5: Widening Participation
5.3 Supporting students from non-traditional backgrounds.
The University is seeking to ensure that, irrespective of their backgrounds, all students admitted have access to flexible, responsive support programmes and learning environments enabling them to complete their studies successfully
5.4 Developing outreach activities encouraging widening participation.
The University is committed to raising awareness of the benefits of higher education among school pupils, further education students, teachers and parents, and to working with primary and secondary schools in Greater Manchester to promote wider participation in higher education generally.
Goal 6: Empowering Collegiality
6.5 Making the University an exemplary employer, and to position it as a destination of preference within higher education, nationally and internationally.
